From the "History of McHenry County, IL"
Amoung the early settlers of Greenwood was "Lewis Boone come from Ohio and remained in the township untill he died; his remains lie in Greenwood Cemetery. Eldridge Boon, son of Lewis, is said to be the first white child born in the township. His death occurred in 1838 and it is believed to be that he was the first person who died in the township, also the first person buried in Greenwood Cemetery."

Lewis Boon settled in Greenwood township in the spring of 1837.
