Marriage Record of John Sledge and Cinthia Sammons
(Sussex County,Va.Marriage Bonds 1791-1795, Reference 1793-24)

KNOW all men by these presents that we John Sledge & James Sammons are held and firmly bound unto Henry Lee esquire Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia In the just and full sum of Fifty Pounds current money payment whereof well and truly to be made to the said Governor & his successors we bind ourselves jointly and severally our and each of our Joint and several Heirs, exors & admrs from ___ by these presents. Sealed with our seals and dated this twenty seventh day of October Anno Dom. 1793.
THE CONDITION of the above obligation is such that whereas the above
named John Sledge is shortly about to intermarry with a certain Cinthia
Sammons now if there be no Lawful cause to obstruct the said marriage,
Then the above obligation to be void or else to remain in full force.

Zebulon Sledge Sr. first settled in Virginia when he came here then moved to Tennessee.

John married Cinthia L Sammons, daughter of James Sammons and Elizabeth Passmore, in Sussex County, Virginia. (Cinthia L Sammons was born on 10 Jan 1762 in VA and died in 1840.)

John next married Cinthia A Sammons, daughter of James Sammons and Elizabeth Passmore, on 7 Oct 1793 in VA. (Cinthia A Sammons was born about 1771 in VA and died before 1814.)
